Dr. Steckel's career also includes his ongoing work with his wife Michele on The Milestones Project, a growing archive of over 35,000 photographs of children from 24 nations and cultures that pays tribute to the core experiences shared by every person on the planet. A best friend. A lost tooth. A first day of school. These moments are milestones that all children experience. Everywhere. The most common reaction from young people who view these photographs is this simple phrase: "look, those children are just like me!"
